0-0 vs Torpedo

Not a bad result vs the 2nd division champions on saturday, especially when you take into account the state of the manager pre match. Apart from Terry,and Pat, we were at full strength, so should have been very competetive but Richards 3 hours sleep and hangover did not make for a good defensive cover. Fritz was back to add meat to the challenges at right back. James and the argentinians were late arrivals so Caj started on the right wing, and Humberto started up front.

St Marti is a rotten pitch for football, so it was always likely to be scrappy but the first half was horrible. There was no cohesion in our play, the ball was carelessly given away constantly, and the defense was always busy, although rarely found wanting. The Torpedo strikers were not particularly efficient, but then whenever they got within 20 yards of the goal, one of the back 4 crunched them hard enough to make them wary. Maybe this was what started them whinging, but it became the main aspect of the game. First half they seemed always to have an extra link up man in midfield, and had the better of the play, but we weren't particularly worried about their firepower. 0-0 half time.

James came on for Humberto and Walther for Caj at half time. Mike refused to come on for a flagging Richard as he said his hangover was worse after attending the same wedding. The second half was much better as we kept the ball better. The addition of Walther especially made the midfield a little more tricky, and started causing Torpedo some problems. After the 0 shots on target from the first half, we started creating chances, though mainly they were spurned. Corners and free kicks were coming reglarly and even with 3 players over 6 foot, we could not break the deadlock. Simon came off injured and Juan moved on to the left wing to start causing havoc with the tired Torpedo whingers. The game petered out in the end with nothing much going forward with either team. 0-0 a fair result although disappointing after the last game.
